Everyone always says turkey burgers are plain and dry. But I’ve learned over the years that they CAN be plain and dry if you over cook them and if you don’t season them properly. After trying the Trader Joe’s turkey patties, my opinion on frozen turkey burgers was totally transformed. So while at Target, I decided to pick up a box of Jennie-O All White Meat Turkey Burgers. There were a few options, but the white meat sounded more appetizing to me, particularly because I’m a white meat type of girl.
What I liked off the bat was when I opened the box, the burgers are individually wrapped! I love that because so many times when I purchase premade patties they’re all wrapped together in plastic wrap and separated with wax paper. That can be frustrating especially when I’m only planning on making a few burgers.
I heated up my nonstick skillet and put the patties into the pan – which were more than halfway frozen.As the patties cooked I sprinkled a small helping of hamburger seasoning over one side. I found they cooked evenly and resembled any other chicken/turkey burger I’ve cooked in the past. When done I served it on a sandwich thin with lettuce, tomato and onion. I found them to be quite perfect, very filling, and delicious. I found one turkey burger with a 3 ounce helping of French fries was more than enough.So much more satisfying than anything I’d get out at a fast food restaurant.
A burger (1/3 pound) is 200 calories or 5 points plus values. Completely worth it.

I decided to make a very polish dinner because I’d been dying for some sauerkraut (which my boyfriend hates) and needed a reason to make the sauerkraut pierogi’s I had purchased at a local grocery store.My mother and aunt typically make homemade pierogi once a year, but that’s around Christmas time, so the other 11 months out of the year I rely on frozen options. I purchased a refrigerated type by the brand Kasia’s from Shaw’s. These are the most authentic pierogi’s I’ve had – because even though I enjoy frozen pierogi they’re nothing in comparison to homemade and the Kasia’s brand is the closest I can get.
I made corn on the cob (2 points plus), turkey kielbasa with peppers and onions (3 ounces – 3 points plus), sauerkraut (0 points plus) and sauerkraut pierogi’s (3 for 4 points plus). It was a delicious, easy to make and filling 9 points plus dinner. I was overloaded in sauerkraut, I admit, but I enjoy sauerkraut so much it was delicious.
A number of weeks back I was really in the mood for pierogi’s. My mother and aunt make homemade pierogi’s from scratch usually every Christmas – but this year they didn’t make them. I could have just thrown a box of frozen in some boiling water and called it a day but I was feeling adventurous and while grocery shopping I spotted egg noodles and decided to try out a new recipe.
I boiled some water seasoned with a little bit of salt and when boiling I added in the egg noodles to cook through to al dente.In a separate pan I added 2 tablespoons of margarine and added in 2 sliced up medium onions. I let those start to cook and brown together before adding in a splash of water (to keep it from sticking) and added in my squeezed canned sauerkraut. Since I LOVE sauerkraut I used two cans (which you want to make sure you ring pretty ‘dry’) the two cans was just enough for the whole bag of egg noodles.I seasoned the sauerkraut and onion mixture with a pinch of black pepper and a pinch of salt.
I boiled the turkey kielbasa in water just to heat it through (you can even throw it in the same pot as the boiling pasta if you’d like since it’s already cooked).When the noodles were done I drained and added into the pan of sauerkraut and mixed until combined.
I had 1/6th of the pan of pasta and it was 7 points plus values and I paired it with 2 ounces of Jennie-O turkey kielbasa – along side a helping of spicy brown mustard. Delicious meal!
